Minecraft is a decade-old game, yet millions of players log in every month, and rightfully so. Minecraft is what I like to call a FOREVER GAME—a game that never seems to get old no matter how much you play it. New players diving into Minecraft for the first time obviously have a blast, but we often forget just how massive Minecraft has become. There's a lot you can do and a lot of distractions, but not a lot of guides or handholding. Minecraft literally spawns you into the world and says, "Go explore." But what are you supposed to do?
As a Minecraft noob, I didn't even know you could mine for ores—that's how confused I was. So, I decided to create a guide for all the newbies who might be getting into Minecraft for the first time. I'll share with you everything you need to know on your first world, on the first night—everything!
So without any further ado, let's get into it!
Getting Started
Spawn
When you start, you'll appear in a random location. Look around to get your bearings.
Gathering Resources
- Wood: Punch trees to collect wood blocks.
- Crafting Table: Craft a crafting table from wood planks.
- Tools: Make basic tools like a wooden pickaxe, shovel, and axe using your crafting table. You can basically mine every block in the game and then look up what it can be useful for on the internet!
Building Shelter
- Find a good spot and build a simple shelter to protect yourself from monsters at night.
- Use your crafting table to make doors, walls, and a roof from wood or other materials you gather.
Exploring and Mining
- Venture into caves to find coal, iron, and other valuable ores.
- Craft better tools and weapons as you collect more resources.
Surviving the Night
- Monsters like zombies and skeletons come out at night, so stay indoors or craft weapons to defend yourself.
Expanding and Building
- Once you're safe, start building! Create houses, castles, farms, or anything else you can imagine using the blocks you collect.
Experimenting with Crafting
- Minecraft has a vast crafting system. Experiment with different combinations of materials to discover new items and tools.
Exploring the World
- Minecraft worlds are huge and procedurally generated. Explore different biomes like forests, deserts, and mountains to find unique resources and structures.
Interacting with Villagers (Optional)
- You may encounter villages with NPCs (non-player characters). Trade with them for useful items or protect them from monsters.
Having Fun
- Minecraft is about creativity and exploration. Don't forget to enjoy the process of building and discovering new things!
Remember, the best part of Minecraft is the freedom to play however you like. Whether you're crafting, exploring, or surviving, there's always something new to discover!
