What to expect from the Elden Ring DLC – ARTKEMON

What to expect from the Elden Ring DLC

Miyazaki has finally blessed us with the Elden Ring DLC, and I've never been this excited for an expansion pack of any game before, and rightfully so. Elden Ring was my first Souls experience, and diving into its world was truly magical for me.

So when the Shadow of the Erdtree trailer dropped, I was watching with my eyes wide open, looking for every new detail I could notice, and I've noticed quite a few. So here's a rundown of what to expect from the expansion, both story and gameplay-wise. Let's dive in!

Story

The Souls games' DLCs in the past have managed to build upon the lore left in the main game, and the same can be expected for the new DLC. The story seems to heavily focus on the relationship between Morghot and Miquella, especially Miquella. We've already had a taste of his sister in the main game, so let's see what Miquella has been up to. He's been a very mysterious character since the start, and we know he'll show up as we saw in the trailer.

The trailer also reveals a new realm, the Shadow of the Erdtree, which is the same tree from the main game but destroyed beyond recognition. So either we're in a new dimension or a different time - maybe in the future or past; we've seen stuff like this before. We also got a glimpse of who the main antagonist might be, Mesmit. This boss is plastered all over the DLC merch, so yeah, get ready for that!

Gameplay

The DLC will cost around $30, so FromSoftware better pack a lot of content into it. For comparison, Terraria, one of the most beloved sandbox games still getting updates years after its release, is around the same price. So, charging as much as a new game, we hope there's a ton of content - at least half of what Elden Ring was. The gameplay trailer showed off new areas, bosses, and NPCs, so we'll definitely see some juicy new quests.

We also caught a glimpse of a whole array of new spells; one that players and I noticed immediately was the wing that the Crucible Knight had - oh, how I've been waiting for that! And that's basically it. We're not going to dive deep into every frame of the trailer; there's a lot to unpack. You should check it out for yourself. So, we hope you enjoyed this short rundown. Are you excited for the Shadow of the Erdtree? I sure am!
